Nordhausen

Nordhausen in Thuringia was badly bombed in the war. Fortunately the churches were not completely destroyed.

Cloisters. There is not much of the cloisters remaining. Fortunately this fantastic carving is still there Cloisters. A beautiful green Dragon next to the Green Man
Choir stools. Carved in 1380 these choir stools have to be some of the finest I have ever seen. The carver is unknown. Four Green Man images can be seen there The second Green Man in the choir stools
A third relief carving A second relief carving
Perhaps not a Green Man but the iconography is clearly the same. Interestingly, on the end of the choir screen is a large carving showing Jesus surrounded by foliage as protection
